We are now hiring a full- time Domestic Violence Trainer to join our Family Shelter Service team . This is a meaningful opportunity to be part of a compassionate, mission-driven program. SALARY: The average starting salary for this position will fall in the range of $44,000 and $48,000 annually. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill and experience level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the development and facilitation of 40-hour domestic violence trainings offered at MFS. Ensures appropriate staffing of all training sessions.
  • Develops and facilitates DV-related continuing education and professional development trainings for staff, as well as community education and outreach trainings, incorporating current best practices, evidence-based approaches, and emerging trends in the field of domestic violence
  • Maintains a regular annual schedule of full 40-hour, 20/20 hybrid trainings, and DV-related workshops for new hires, interns, volunteers, and community members.
  • Creates, distributes, and manages training schedules for upcoming 40-hour DV trainings and DV-related workshops, serving as the primary point of contact for participants, trainers, and external partners.
  • Collaborates with Communications department to ensure timely submission of information needed to regularly update and maintain the website, wait list, and online registrations.
  • Assists the Program Supervisor in compiling and submitting information for the biannual IL Certified Domestic Violence Professionals (CDVP) Training, Supervision, and CEU-Granting Site status renewals.
  • Attends any mandatory group supervision and program/agency meetings.
  • Participates in a team-oriented approach by collaborating with departmental staff and other programs.
  • Completes paperwork in a timely manner, including reports and statistics related to the training program. Works within contract, grant, and program expectations, including meeting timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Conducts research regarding current and evolving trends in domestic violence to enhance and update training materials. Remains cognizant of current developments in the field of domestic violence. Attends appropriate workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance professional development and understanding of issues in the field
  • May participate in community outreach; establishes and maintains contact with local agencies, organizations, and partnering sites as appropriate; effectively and professionally represents Metropolitan Family Services and the domestic violence program in the community.
  • Provides services in accordance with the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals’ code of ethics.
  • Educates frontline professionals, including healthcare workers, community workers, and other service providers on how to recognize, respond to, and appropriately refer individuals experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence.
  • Provides instructional support, guidance, and clarification to learners throughout training sessions to enhance understanding and skill development.
  • Creates and maintains a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed learning environment that encourages open discussion, reflection, and knowledge.
  • This position is primarily in person and requires flexibility to meet training demands, including evening and weekend availability.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent plus 4+ years’ work experience or Associate’s degree plus 2+ year work experience in training, public speaking, and/or the field of gender based violence.


TRAVEL/MOBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Driving for work required with a personally owned vehicle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience in social services, community education, public speaking, program development, training, and/or the field of gender-based violence strongly preferred.
  • Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (CDVP) certification preferred and may be required.
  • 40-hour Domestic Violence training preferred at time of hire. This training is required at first opportunity upon hire and must be completed prior to any contact with DV program clients or their personally identifying information.
  • Bilingual/bicultural preferred and may be required for particular programs or sites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Experience and comfort with public speaking and/or training is strongly preferred.
  • Interest in domestic violence prevention/ intervention, program development, and continued growth within the field.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, the impacts of trauma, and the principles of Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Empathic, non-judgmental, service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in varied situations and to function with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work and problem-solve both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, and mature judgment.
  • Must demonstrate self-awareness, insight, and commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional public speaking skills, and demonstrate understanding and effectiveness in working with diverse populations.
  • Prior experience and comfort level with Excel and creating presentations using
  • PowerPoint, Canva, or similar software.

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
