Lab Assistant Alternate/Related Job Titles: Laboratory Support Technician Specimen Processing Assistant Clinical Lab Operations Assistant Location: Seattle, WA Onsite Flexibility: Contract Details: Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: Approximately 3 months Start: As Soon As Possible Pay Rate: $21.25–24.35/hr Shift/Hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM Job Summary: The Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory support tasks with precision and accuracy to facilitate workflow for laboratory professionals. This role helps ensure efficient production, proper specimen handling, and a safe work environment while following established laboratory procedures and quality standards. Key Responsibilities: Sort and receive specimens within the department. Perform routine instrument maintenance as assigned. Centrifuge specimens, print extra labels, record temperature chart data, and manage specimen storage and retrieval. Prepare reagents and media for laboratory processes. Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting samples, checking for clots/fibrin, inoculating samples, and preparing slides. Conduct QA/QC duties and resolve pending lists. Locate missing samples and maintain department records. Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests. Change gas cylinders and follow all PPE and safety requirements. Operate the laboratory computer system and PCs for data entry and specimen tracking. Dispose of biohazardous material according to procedures. Complete training and competency checklists. Support additional laboratory tasks as required. Required Experience: No prior laboratory experience required. Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently. Strong retention skills and ability to learn and follow procedures. Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, internal staff, and external customers. Nice-to-Have Experience: Medical Assistant training. Background in math or science coursework.
