Job Description

Recording And Licensing Technician

This position is hybrid after training and successfully completing the probationary period.

Why It's a Great Opportunity:

In this role, you will be a vital point for our recording customers, offering respectful, responsive, and inclusive in-person service. Drawing on your strong background in customer support, cashiering, and data entry, you will help create a welcoming environment where every individual feels heard and valued. You will record documents for permanent retention, enter them into the index for retrieval and public inspection while handling them with care and accuracy. You will also research historic records, ensuring that your attention to detail and commitment to service excellence make a meaningful difference in every customer's experience.

Why It's a Great Department:

The mission of the Pierce County Auditor's Office is to provide the tools and resources people need so they can turn around and impact their community. We conduct secure and trustworthy elections, we maintain the integrity and accessibility of public records, and we provide reliable licensing and passport services. We also provide administrative direction and support for the Pierce County Opioid Abatement Council. We are a team that promotes trust through positivity, change, innovation, and kindness.

Recording. The Recording Division receives, indexes, and records public documents such as deeds, maps, mortgage materials, easements, powers of attorney, liens, and military discharge papers. We process anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 public documents each year, depending on market conditions. We collect excise tax payments on the sale of real property.

Licensing. The Licensing Division provides auto and boat title services such as tab renewals, trip permits, license plate replacement, and more. Want to get married in Pierce County? That's us. Need a pet license in unincorporated Pierce County? That's us, too. We manage licensing for certain businesses in unincorporated Pierce County, and we staff a full-time, full-service passport office.

How to be Successful in the Role:

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with cash handling experience who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys serving a diverse customer base, and can quickly interpret and apply RCWs and WACs. If you have a love of learning and the ability to retain and apply information accurately, you will excel in this role. Predictable and reliable attendance is essential, as our customers rely on us to be present and ready to assist. You will have effective communication and interpersonal skills, and phone etiquette to support a wide range of customer needs. In this role, you will accurately review and process various transactions, perform data entry proficiently, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow instructions. You will also be expected to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a supportive team, always with a focus on delivering inclusive, respectful, and high-quality service.
